Yogurt and it’s health benefits are not new to the food world. For the past 4000 years people have recognized these benefits, make it frozen and you have a delightful snack as well. Because of the benefits of live active cultures it’s valued as a health food and frozen it’s a treat.
Live Active Culture which convert pasteurized milk to yogurt fermentation and this provides a create source of health benefits for a very low cost. The active cultures in yogurt are an excellent source of calcium. Most adults consume less than two-thirds of RDA of 1200 MG of Calcium a day. Adult women as well as the elderly will find that an 8 oz. serving of low calorie non-fat yogurt would provides almost half the daily calcium needed. And only at 160 calories!
Years of studies have confirmed the health benefits of yogurt in lactose (milk sugar) intolerance prone people aids the digestion of milk proteins, and reduces gastro-intestinal infections.
Tufts University has found in studies that yogurt contains a bacteria that may protect against cancer of the colon or breast. In a study published from 2006 it was revealed that people who consumed high levels of dairy fat, such as cheese have a high risk of breast cancer. But those who ate most of their dairy as yogurt had the least risk.
Exercise caution however as not all products termed “frozen yogurt” actually contain live and active cultures. Some use heat-treated yogurt which kills the live and active cultures, or they may simply add in cultures to the mix along with acidifiers, and skip the fermentation step all together.
Make sure that a frozen yogurt contains yogurt produced by traditional fermentation and has a significant amount of live and active cultures.
Look for manufacturers who use the traditional fermentation method of growing their cultures.
